Life cycle assessment of an agrivoltaic system with conventional potato production

Climate change and land use conflicts represent two of the greatest challenges worldwide. One possible solution are agrivoltaic (APV) systems, in which agricultural production is combined with a photovoltaic (PV) system same area. However, there insufficient information on environmental impacts this technology. Therefore, goal study was to evaluate an conventional potato using life cycle assessment (LCA). For purpose, three scenarios were developed compared terms their impact: An APV electricity (scenario 1), spatially separated 2), scenario purchase covered by German mix 3). The 1) ground-mounted PV modules 2) performed better than 3. In Land Use category, 1 caused lowest impact. Comparing scenarios, 2 had lower 12 17 impact categories due steel consumption. Also, comparing 3, observed 13 categories. systems generally similar those ground mounted both existing, separate energy crop production. ongoing advances design, materials used for mounting structures development solar modules, it can be expected that will significantly reduced future.
